Information We Collect

Personal Information You Provide

We may collect the following personal information that you voluntarily provide to us:

  • Email address: When you subscribe to our newsletter, download free resources, or create an account
  • Name: When you subscribe to our newsletter or download lead magnets
  • Location data: When you use our USDA Hardiness Zone map feature and grant permission to access your device location
  • ZIP Code: When you voluntarily enter a five-digit ZIP Code to look up a coarse hardiness-zone area

Automatically Collected Information

When you visit our Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device and browsing behavior:

  • Usage data: Pages visited, time spent on pages, clicks, and navigation patterns
  • Device information: IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers
  • Cookies and tracking technologies: We use cookies to enhance your experience and analyze site usage (see "Cookies" section below)

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Newsletter delivery: To send you our weekly garden tips, seasonal inspiration, and plant care advice
  • Lead magnet delivery: To provide you with free downloadable resources such as coloring books, gardening guides, and checklists
  • Service improvement: To understand how visitors use our Site and improve our content and features
  • Personalization: To show you plants and content relevant to your USDA hardiness zone
  • Analytics: To analyze site traffic and user behavior using Google Analytics 4 and the Meta Pixel
  • Legal compliance: To comply with applicable laws and regulations

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may collect and process your information:

Loops.so (Newsletter Service)

We use Loops.so to manage our email newsletter subscriptions and mailing lists. When you subscribe, your email address and name are stored and processed by Loops.so. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send you.

Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use our Site. Google Analytics collects data such as pages viewed, time on page, approximate location, device and browser information, and the referring source, using cookies and similar technologies. This information helps us measure traffic and improve our content.

You can learn more in the Google Privacy Policy, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across websites with theGoogle Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Meta Pixel

We use the Meta Pixel to measure the effectiveness of our marketing and understand actions visitors take on our Site, such as visiting a page or signing up for our newsletter. The Pixel may set cookies and share information with Meta Platforms, Inc. For more information, please see the Meta Privacy Policy.

Geolocation Services

Our USDA Hardiness Zone map feature uses your browser's geolocation API to help you find plants suitable for your location. This feature only works if you explicitly grant permission, and location data is not stored or shared beyond determining your hardiness zone.

You may instead submit a five-digit ZIP Code. It is sent only to Rita's Garden Path API and matched against a local database; no runtime geocoding service receives it. A successful ZIP search is kept in the shareable page URL, so it may appear in your browser history and standard site analytics may process that page URL under the provider practices described above. Our application logger is configured to record the endpoint path without retaining the ZIP query value.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience on our Site. Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help us:

  • Remember your preferences and settings
  • Prevent showing you the same popup multiple times
  • Understand which pages and features are most popular (analytics)
  • Measure our marketing (advertising)

Non-essential cookies are off by default. On your first visit we ask which categories you allow, and analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you opt in. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer, or by clearing your browser storage. Disabling cookies may limit some features of our Site.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics and manage Meta ad preferences using the links in the sections above.

Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: With trusted third-party services like Loops.so, Google Analytics, and Meta that help us operate our Site
  • Legal obligations: When required by law, court order, or government regulation
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (you will be notified via email and/or prominent notice on our Site)

Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
